When Avalon mentioned they were interested in shooting at Mount Assisi Gardens for their engagement session, I literally couldn't type "YES" fast enough. This 106-year-old estate in Loretto, PA has the perfect amount of charm and elegance, and these two were the PERFECT couple to bring this dreamy location to life.
After having to reschedule once due to typical Pennsylvania spring showers, I was checking the weather app obsessively the entire week leading up to their session. Luckily, we ended up with the most gorgeous golden evening light when their rescheduled date finally came around. Avalon and Justin showed up ready to absolutely kill it in their first outfit – a stunning combination of whites and neutrals that complemented the historic stone architecture. The way the warm evening sun cast this ethereal glow across the gardens while highlighting the subtle textures in their outfits? Pure. Magic.
I was STRUGGLING at first to contain my excitement over all the different spots we could shoot. The lawn, the stone pathways, the historic architecture with its dreamy archways and staircases – it was like every corner of this place was specifically designed for engagement photos. Those century-old stone walls catching the golden hour light created a dreamscape I couldn't have planned if I tried. The textures, the soft neutral palette, the way the light filtered through the garden foliage – easily my favorite backdrop of the entire session.
For their second look, they switched to black outfits that created a striking editorial vibe against the romantic setting. The contrast between their modern, sleek style and the timeless gardens made for images that felt straight out of a magazine spread.
We moved between storytelling moments and editorial poses throughout the session, finding the perfect balance between curated and candid. Avalon and Justin's engagement session might be my new portfolio favorite, and the way they lit up when they saw the previews? That's the stuff that reminds me why I do this job.
