You know what they say about the best-laid plans? Yeah, well, Emily and Chris's original engagement session location totally flopped at the last minute. But plot twist – their backup plan at Greenwood Furnace State Park ended up being SO much better than anything we could have originally planned. Sometimes the universe really does have your back!
When we rolled up to Greenwood Furnace State Park for their Pennsylvania engagement photos, I immediately knew this location change was actually divine intervention. This hidden gem gave us everything a photographer dreams of: that butter-smooth golden hour light, water so reflective it looked like nature's own Instagram filter, and greenery so lush and wild it made me want to move into the forest permanently.
We were bouncing around the park like the native pollinators (okay, maybe that was just me), finding new gorgeous backdrops every five minutes. One second we're getting dreamy waterside engagement photos, the next we're capturing romantic forest engagement session vibes that looked straight out of a Pinterest board. Greenwood Furnace was basically showing off at this point.
But here's where Emily and Chris completely broke my brain in the BEST possible way: they brought Mason jars filled with milk to toast their engagement. MILK, people! At first, I'm thinking "okay, cute rustic engagement photo prop," but then they drop the bomb that it's because of their mutual love and work for cattle! I mean, forget champagne and fancy cocktails – these two said "cheers to forever" with MILK like the absolute legends they are. If that's not the most authentically adorable thing you've ever heard, I don't know what is. This is exactly why I love doing natural engagement photography sessions – you never know what amazing personal touches couples will bring!
The golden hour lighting at this Pennsylvania state park was absolutely unreal. We're talking that magical hour when everything looks like it's been dipped in honey and Instagram filters become obsolete. The way that warm light bounced off the water while we captured their outdoor engagement photos? Chef's kiss.
Emily and Chris made my job ridiculously easy because they were just SO themselves. While I'm over here getting technical about "golden hour engagement photography" and "natural lighting," they're casually clinking milk-filled Mason jars and looking at each other like they've discovered the secret to happiness (spoiler alert: they probably have).
The variety we got from this one location was insane. Romantic lakeside engagement photos? Check. Whimsical forest engagement portraits? Double check. Hilariously perfect milk-toasting moments that will make their grandkids crack up someday? TRIPLE CHECK. What started as a "oh no, we need to find a new spot" situation turned into one of my favorite Pennsylvania engagement photography sessions ever. Emily and Chris proved that the best engagement photos happen when couples aren't afraid to be completely, unapologetically themselves – even if that means bringing dairy products to a photo shoot.
Greenwood Furnace State Park provided the stunning natural backdrop for their engagement session, but Emily and Chris's genuine personalities and their willingness to celebrate their love in the most authentic way possible? That's what made these outdoor engagement photos absolutely unforgettable.
